Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Ok for the Greek and Roman season in History read the book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians it is about the Greek gods and goddesses in today's world. Trust me you only need to read the first book and at least half your class will be hooked on it and asking you if they can borrow the next book in the series. Fire Bug Connection

Fire Bug Connection is one of the worst books I have ever read my whole class even thinks that it is the worst book we have ever read Do NOT and I repeat DO NOT have your class read this book!!!

The ending A Tree did it A Tree is killing Fire Bugs and not all the Fire Bugs in the world no only the ones that Maggie owns

Pottery

The ancient Greeks are known for there pottery

(You will need a kiln)

Make your own pot by getting Clay you can make a pinch pot or a coil pot (if you make a coil pot you will need to score the coil) put a design on it. After the pot is made put it on a cart for about 3 weeks to a Month DO NOT TOUCH THE POT!!!!!!!!!! If you bump the pot it will shatter. Put the pot into the kiln.
When it is done in the kiln paint it with glaze ether as a red figure (red figure is the design is red) or a black figure( black figure is the design is black) make sure ther is at least 3 cotes of the glaze. DO NOT LET THE GLAZES MIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put it back in the kiln. When it comes out it will make a beautiful Greek Pot. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK OUT OF IT!!!!!!

Greek Olimpics

The Greek Olympics, this should take place some time after you learned about the ancient Greek's

6th graders get dressed in chiton's like the ancient Greek's we used white sheet's from home and safety pins ware regular school cloths under neath, have your kids come to school in them teachers also where chiton's to school if they do not bring a chiton than they can not participate.
Get all the 6th grade classes together and have one class be the parade of nations and sort all the 6 graders into groups like Athens, Sparta, Magara etc... and have them compete in compositions.
Have avry one compete we did it by gender and team like girls Sparta girls Athens, pick the winners from each city and have each of the winners comepeat in the same invent and then select the 1,2,3, places after all the invents are done congratulate the winners with wreaths and meddles.
After the games put on the movie Hercules ask your kids to " See if they can reconise the
Gods and Goddesses, and pay attention to all the Greek history that they put into the movie"
Ask moms to make a Greek lunch cheese, olives, bread, lots of grapes we put the olives and cheese on a shiscabob stick. For drinks water or white grape juice. Pause the movie and have the 6 graders serve them selves after every one is served and there is still more let them have seconds, thirds, froths in till all the food is gone after the firsts un-pause the movie.
After the movie is finished go back to the class rooms and do some thing till the end of the day the Greek Olympics will take most of the day.
